Ulrike Günther has been involved with visual design language since her youth - be it in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and film. The discovery of spiritual connections and the examination of philosophical questions is implemented in a pictorial medium and opens meditative spaces. The study of art history (Master Of Arts), journalism and communication studies, economic- and social psychology determined her further career and is to this day the theoretical foundation on which her work is based and developed.
Born in Denmark in 1970, raised in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, she now lives in Leipzig after several stations.
The spiritual in art, the "inner necessity", as Kandinsky always put it, is her mainspring, that is the force in her art.


Ulrike Günther beschäftigt sich seit ihrer Jugend mit visueller Formsprache - sei es in Malerei, Zeichnung, Skulptur, Fotografie oder Film. Die Entdeckung geistiger Zusammenhänge und die Auseinandersetzung mit philosophischen Fragen findet ihre Umsetzung in ein bildhaftes Medium und öffnet meditative Räume. Das Studium der Kunstgeschichte (M.A.), Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaften, Wirtschafts- und Sozialpsychologie bestimmte ihren weiteren Werdegang und ist bis heute das theoretische Fundament, auf dem sich ihr Werk aufbaut und weiter entwickelt.
1970 in Dänemark geboren, in NRW und Niedersachsen aufgewachsen, lebt sie mittlerweile nach mehreren Stationen in Leipzig.
Das Spirituelle in der Kunst, die "innere Notwendigkeit", wie Kandinsky es immer formuliert hat, das sind ihre Triebfedern, das ist die Kraft in ihrer Kunst.

By coining the term "inner necessity", Kandinsky created a claim to art that has accompanied me since my student days and is a very important point of reference in every piece of art to me.
So far a feeling, a state of being becomes the starting point for a creation process in front of the canvas or behind the camera. In order to express contents of a mental nature or a context, a coherence of a more spiritual side I was mostly drawn to certain colours or a special setting at first and gradually an inner being and feeling took form in an outer image or scenery.
However, my spiritual longing to anchor myself more and more in the Now leads me further and further into a different way of creative expression. My daily practice is to root myself every moment in the Now as best I can. Being in this state of consciousness, which I call the creative silence, I step in front of the canvas, paper or behind the camera and let form, color and scenery arise through me, my critical mind remains in the background for as long as possible. This type of work requires courage and willingness to give up control over any result. This process is very exciting and deeply satisfying for me.
Kandinsky's standard that a work should be "of extraordinary beauty" and "full of inner charisma" remains my declared standard every day anew.

Mit dem Prägen des Begriffs der "inneren Notwendigkeit", hat Kandinsky einen Anspruch an Kunst geschaffen, der mich seit meiner Studienzeit begleitet und ein ganz wichtiger Bezugspunkt in einem jedem Bild für mich ist. Bisher war ein Empfinden, ein Seins-Zustand, Ausgangspunkt des Schaffens vor der Leinwand für mich und um Inhalte geistiger Natur oder spiritueller Formzusammenhänge auszudrücken, habe ich zunächst zu bestimmten Farben gegriffen und so erhielt allmählich ein inneres Sein sein äußeres Bild.
Mein spirituelles Sehnen, mich immer mehr im Augenblick des Seins zu verankern, führt mich jedoch immer weiter in eine andere Art und Weise des kreativen Ausdrucks. Meine tägliche Praxis besteht darin, mich jeden Augenblick so gut wie möglich, im Jetzt zu verwurzeln. Aus diesem Zustand heraus, welches ich die kreative Stille nenne, trete ich auch an die Leinwand oder hinter die Kamera und lasse durch mich Form und Farbe oder ein Motiv entstehen, mein kritischer Verstand bleibt dabei so lange wie möglich im Hintergrund. Für diese Art des Arbeitens braucht es Mut und Bereitschaft, die Kontrolle über ein etwaiges Ergebnis aufzugeben. Dieser Prozeß ist sehr spannend und zutiefst befriedigend zugleich.
Kandinskys Maßstab, dass ein Werk "von außergewöhnlicher Schönheit" und "voll innerer Ausstrahlung" sein sollte, bleibt dabei weiterhin jeden Tag aufs Neue mein erklärter Maßstab.
